The Story
The conclusion of the Kingfisher trio, "After the Catch," shifts the focus from the pursuit to the aftermath. Here, the bird is seen grooming — a quiet, essential act of restoration following the intensity of the hunt.
This piece is an exploration of self-care and the necessity of tending to one’s own spirit after periods of hardship or deep emotional labour. It acknowledges that while life may never truly return to the shape it held before, the cycle of nature continues. The expansive, subtle background reminds us that the "unknown" is always present, but by caring for ourselves in the present moment, we find the strength to move forward with grace.
The Poem
In tranquil hues of blue, brown and green,
A kingfisher poised, so serene.
With patience keen, it waits, it yearns,
For the perfect moment, it discerns.

In ripples dance, beneath the sky,
It spies its prey with eagle eye.
With grace and speed, it strikes so swift,
A fleeting moment, a precious gift.

Oh kingfisher, in colors bright,
Teach us patience, teach us might.
To wait for dreams with steady gaze,
And seize the moment, all of our days.
