The Story
"Bear Necessities" marks the debut of the Table Scraps series, representing a deliberate and conceptual evolution in my artistic voice. Moving beyond the quiet serenity of traditional wildlife portraiture, this series enters the realm of Allegorical Realism to explore the profound friction between modern human luxury and the raw, untamed reality of the natural world.
The scene positions a bear alongside a table draped in white linen and a stage set with fine wine, seafood, a silver dish, and a delicate caviar spoon. In the background, a shelf holding a contemporary sculpture anchors the space in a world of high-end consumerism and manufactured refinement.
The true tension lies in the subject itself. Captured from the side, the bear looks back over its shoulder with a distracted expression, its mouth slightly open. It is a creature entirely out of place in an environment of excess, refusing to perform or fit into the civilized narrative. Through this collision of refinement and wild instinct, the painting questions the boundaries of our abundance and what happens when the scarcity of the wild meets the luxurious overindulgence of human society.
