The Story
The second study in my Chickadee duo, "Below the Perch," explores the power of attentiveness. While its counterpart focuses on the moment before flight, this piece captures the bird in a state of intentional observation. It is a portrait of the "inner eye" — the quiet, mental preparation that precedes any great movement.
The muted green background and soft white accents create a sense of calm, mirroring the bird’s focused demeanor. It serves as a reminder that true strength is not always found in loud actions or grand gestures. Often, it is cultivated in the quiet moments where we pause to assess, reflect, and adapt to the world around us. In the steady gaze of this small bird, we find a mirror for our own capacity to remain present and observant amidst life’s complexities.
The Poem
In branches tall, where shadows play,
A tiny bird, in hues of gray,
A chestnut-backed chickadee,
In quiet strength, it's easy to see.

Its wings may seem delicate, frail,
Yet within, a spirit, fierce and hale.
Through storm and wind, it takes its flight,
Invisible might, hidden from sight.

In paintings two, its story told,
Of strength within, both young and old.
Endurance, not in size or might,
But in the heart, where dreams take flight.

So let us learn from this small bird,
That strength is not in what is heard,
But in the silent, steady beat,
Of resilience, in every feat.
