The Story
This piece was born during a period of deep reflection, painted as I navigated the ongoing healing journey following the loss of my father. I found myself drawn to the image of the bear — not as a figure of power, but as one of quiet, watchful presence.
The "rimlight" catching the fur represents that lingering warmth of someone who shaped our lives from behind the scenes. It is a tribute to a steady strength that remains, even when the source of the light is no longer visible. I am deeply honoured that this piece now resides in the lobby of a senior centre, where I hope it offers that same sense of quiet companionship and enduring light to those who pass by.
The Poem
You were the sun behind it all,
A quiet strength, a steady call.
Like rimlight tracing fur and frame,
You shaped us softly, not for fame.
A bear who walked in warmth and grace,
Avoided traps, kept steady pace.
You loved the birds, the sky, the day,
And taught me light won’t fade away.
Now in the stars, you shine so near,
A glow behind me, always here.
And in the rim of light it bears,
I find your love still lingers there.
